Daciano da Costa

He was one of the pioneers of industrial design in Portugal and designed for numerous sectors of Portuguese industry.

Taught design from 1954 onwards at various levels of state and private education.

He began working as a designer under the guidance of Frederico George. He set up his own studio in Lisbon in 1959, working from then on in interior architecture. His strong teaching vocation allowed successive generations of young designers to join a team in constant renewal

Always working in a territory of blurred boundaries, the studio has been able to diversify its activity into fields as varied as urban design and public art, interior and furniture design, architecture and refurbishment.

In 1962 he began working with Metalúrgica de Longra.

In 1974 he founded the company Risco, focused on industrial design, exhibition design and graphic design projects.

Distinctions

Constantino Fernandes Prize, from the Academia Nacional de Belas Artes.

1962 - Ferreira Chaves Prize, from the Lisbon School of Fine Arts, awarded to the students with the highest marks on the painting course.

1995 - Grand Officer of the Order of Merit, awarded by the Presidency of the Portuguese Republic.

2001 - Commander of the Order of Prince Henry, Annual Architecture Award of the Portuguese Section of the International Association of Art Critics, medal of the National Society of Fine Arts.

2002: Honorary Member of the Portuguese Order of Architects.

2003: Doctor Honoris Causa from the University of Aveiro.

2004: Doctor Honoris Causa from the Technical University of Lisbon.
