Every public space has an identity, a scale and a history. The street furniture that equips it should therefore respond to those specifics. Since 1988, customisation has been part of the way we work, a natural extension of our design process.

We work with local authorities, architecture practices, designers and developers to develop customised street furniture solutions, from adapting existing products to creating pieces designed from scratch for specific contexts.

The result is a product made in Portugal, with the design rigour and material quality that characterise Larus.

Briefing

Tell us what you have in mind for your project: the space, the context, the functional requirements and the references that should guide the development.

Site adaptation

Our team analyses the physical, historical and cultural characteristics of the space and works towards the solution best suited to the place and its identity.

Project development

The project is developed in-house by the technical and design team, based on the briefing and the constraints of the site.

Presentation and quotation

We present our proposal as a rendering, together with a detailed quotation. Once approved, the project moves into production.

Custom street furniture projects delivered by Larus

Over more than three decades, we have developed custom street furniture solutions for municipalities, public and private spaces and regeneration projects in Portugal and abroad. Each project starts from a specific context, whether historical, cultural or contemporary, and results in equipment that responds to the identity of the place where it is installed.

Train bench

Kuwait, 2017

Inspired by an old railway bridge in New York, “The High Line”, the bench sculpturally expresses a set of railway tracks suspended in space. In corten steel and black cork or wood, it is intended for the Memorial Park in Kuwait.

Sharjah signage

UAE, 2013

Signage for the historic, urban and pedestrian area of the emirate of Sharjah, adopting geometric graphics that came out of research into Arab traditions, symbolism and culture. Interior LED lighting and information printed on tempered laminated glass.

Fortress Belt

Belgium, 2013

Rehabilitation and interpretation project for a Spanish line of fortifications built to protect against the French fleets. Constructed during the sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, it runs from Antwerp in Belgium to the provinces of Zeeland and North Brabant in the Netherlands. It includes benches, shelters, panoramic stairways and bicycle racks. The aim is to preserve cultural heritage and historic roots, protect the surrounding nature and increase the tourist and economic potential of the region.

Casablanca Marina

Morocco, 2012

Furniture project for the new Casablanca Marina based on concrete benches with sharply creased angular faces, which gave rise to a line named “Clean”.

Casablanca Medina

Morocco, 2012

Furniture that celebrates Moroccan culture. The references are the doors of the old Medina of Casablanca and of the Hassan II Mosque, the geometric patterns and the Moroccan ceramic pots. It comprises benches, a litter bin, signage and tourist and cultural information signs.

ORION lighting column

Angola, 2011

The tilting of its upper section encourages local people to get involved in maintaining the photovoltaic panels. The LED luminaire delivers high lighting quality and energy autonomy, thanks to the batteries installed at ground level.

Embondeiro line

Angola, 2011

A street furniture solution that draws on historical and cultural references, taking its design from the shape of a tree native to Angola, the Embondeiro, and so helping to reinforce local identity.

Praia da Guia terrace

Portugal, 2007

The project, a terrace on the beach of Srª da Guia in Vila do Conde, set out to respect the surroundings of the seventeenth-century military defence structure, using copper cladding on the roof and on some of the façades, along with a range of other materials.

Expo’98 signage

Portugal, 1998

Signage system for the 1998 world exposition, held in Lisbon, Portugal. The outcome was a structural post, developed and patented by Larus, which with its pared-down presence makes it possible to conceal the fixing systems. Multimedia kiosks were also developed, as well as shading structures.
